Units By Grade Levels
Grades K – 1
Students will start off learning about their locomotor skills and the skills required for team, dual and individual sports. Students will work on social skills such as: being a good teammate, taking turns, and sharing equipment.
Units will include:
Unit 1: Throwing and Catching
Unit 2: Soccer Skills Dribbling (feet) and drop-kicking
Unit 3: Basketball Skills Dribbling (hands) and shooting
Unit 4: Volleyball Skills
Unit 5: Tennis/pickleball skills
Unit 6: Team/cooperation games (balloons, parachute, hula hoops, tag)
Unit 7: Softball/ T-ball Skills
Unit 8: Overview of all units (content review stations/games)

A typical lesson:
Introduction and warm-up, locomotor skills/activity, Activity/Skill practice 1, water break, Activity/Skill practice 2, closing and review
Grades 2 – 3
Students will learn and continue to develop their skills in locomotor skills, team, dual, and individual sports and activities. They will start to learn different strategies of sports. They will work on social skills such as teamwork, taking turns, and sharing equipment.

Grades 4 – 5
Students will begin to develop and play more individual, dual, and team sports. Skills practice will be included at the beginning of each lesson but more time will be spent with students playing on teams to learn strategies of the game. They will start to learn the rules of sports played. They will continue to develop their skills in teamwork, cooperation, and leadership.

Unit 1: Volleyball
Unit 2: Basketball
Unit 3: Soccer
Unit 4: Ultimate frisbee/ frisbee golf
Unit 5: Lawn games (corn hole, ladder golf, spike ball, horseshoes)
Unit 6: Pickleball
Unit 7: Softball
Unit 8: Team handball

A typical lesson:
Introduction,/Warm-up, exercises, skill practice, team play, closing, and review
Grades 6 – 12
Students will develop the dynamics of team, dual, and individual activities/sports. Students will spend time at the beginning of the lesson working on different exercises and the correct form of each exercise. These units will be based on specific sports or activities. The goal of these units is for students to practice individual skills along with strategies of the games. They will learn about the official rules for these sports and how to keep score. Students will be working on teamwork and leadership from older students to younger students. Students will learn different activities/games that can be played long after classes are taken. The importance of lifetime sports and overall physical fitness will be emphasized.
